John,I really appreciate your essays that you have been sending me. I noticed, for the first time, you mentioned a personal experience (fire in the kitchen). I have been finding out that many times, God speaks to us in our ordinary daily experiences. (Well, a kitchen fire may not be very ordinary!) Even so, I am reminded of another ordinary experience.

I have to be at work at 5:00 a.m. The past several weeks I been noticing birds singing as I enter the doors. They always seem particulerly loud, welcoming the coming of the sun. Maybe it is because there hardly any other noise to drown them out, that early in the morning. One cold rainy raw day, as I was running from the car to get inside, I had to stop. The birds were singing just as loud as any other day! I think that God spoke to me at that moment... Birds sing because that is what they do. God gave them that ability, so they sing. It is just that simple!

In a similar way, we worship because God gave us that ability. In the beginning I had to consciously remember why I worship in order to worship. As I pondered on His attributes (Everlasting Goodness, Pure Loving Kindness, Radical Mercy, etc,) then I would fall into worship. Now, I find myself simply worshiping Him, because that is what I do. (Not that I stopped filling my days thinking of Him!) It's just that simple!

Continuing to grow in His Presence,
Mike
